Past Read: Cultural Hybridity
Peter Burke. Cultural Hybridity. (New York: Polity, 2009)
I was unimpressed with Peter Burke's Cultural Hybridity. I had hoped that it would be an expansion on Spivak and Bhabha, but it did not seem to do much other than reiterate in short form the general ideas espoused by them and other postcolonial thinkers and literary theorists. Perhaps I was asking too much from this introduction; it is, after all, a slim volume that is intended as an overview. Yet I still expected to learn something from it, and I found it remarkably cursory. Burke's other work is far superior.
