I am a doctoral student whose area is modern Middle East history, and I am in the midst of my reading year, which is exactly what it sounds like: a year of reading in preparation for exams and dissertating.
This blog is dedicated to the globalization and Arab intellectual history specific books of my reading year. As such, it includes writings on a wide variety of topics related to the Middle East and globalization, including urban studies, imperial and colonial histories, charity and Islamic networks, and cultural and critical theory. (I'm also keeping another blog of my gender studies readings, which you can find linked in the upper righthand corner of the sideroll.) I plan to upload book reviews - or at the very least, notes - for each of the books that I read. Also interspersed throughout the titles - each of which is linked to its Amazon.com page - are posts about specific thinkers, events, and other relevant, interesting tidbits as I come across them.
Thanks for visiting, and enjoy!
